Situated some 50 kilometres from the city of Melbourne is Mornington, gateway to the Mornington Peninsula.

Liz Parker, editor of Notebook, describes the Mornington Peninsula as the southern most point of Victoria and an ideal place to soak up the beautiful and diverse scenery.

Liz Parker, who hails from New Zealand, goes on to say that this area has become her newest favourite destination for reviving seaside holidays. For her, it restores that childhood sense of freedom. The Mornington and its surrounding area has long since been a haven for New Zealander’s, mostly racing people, and others like myself, making this their home.

Why would one want to live anywhere else in the world? Magnificent scenery, fabulous beaches, world class wineries, gourmet discoveries, splendid golf courses are all part and parcel of this magic area.

Something for everyone to do, from cycling the vast network of paths both on-and-of the roads, horseback riding at Gunamatta Beach, swimming with the dolphins or scuba diving in Port Philip Bay.

Racing fans are not let down either with the Mornington Race Course providing a picturesque setting for country picnics at their race meetings.

Long leisurely lunches at any one of the hundreds of quirky little restaurants or coffee shops is a must. (Just be sure you do not turn up for lunch in Mornington after 3.00pm in the afternoon, as the lights go out and you won’t be served.)

Recently I had a friend down from Sydney and was singing the praises of Mornington’s eating houses. Unfortunately my work went overtime and it was after 3pm when we arrived. We tried at least six places on Main Street, all who refused to serve us lunch. How hard is it to make a sandwich my Sydney friend asked? And; is it any wonder McDonald’s does a roaring trade? We finally settled at the Hummingbird Café in Mornington Central. (Anyone who does serve lunch after 3.00 pm in Mornington are welcome to let this site know and we will give you a free plug.

So welcome to our web site and enjoy all the news.
